Here is an interesting piece of software for mobile phones that might be of interested to your readers; I found it work more like an instant messenger, and even better than Valhallachat:
A free Bluetooth instant messenger for mobile phones with a Windows Live Messenger type of interface that allows the user to communicate directly with other mobile phones running the software. This bypasses the cellular network and hence is completely free to use (unlike SMS or any other types of messaging services).
